miss b loves........... Threadneedles Hotel, London

I've just made my return visit to Threadneedles Hotel, this time during the week when the area is vibrant and busy. My first visit was at weekend when many of the shops, cafés and restaurants are closed, as this is the business district, although this is apparently all set to change now that a new shopping centre has opened its doors near St Paul's.
Located in the heart of the Square Mile (The City), Threadneedles is housed in a former Victorian banking hall with a beautiful stained glass domed ceiling which was apparently hand painted in 1856 and has survived two world wars!! It's a magnificent 5* boutique hotel which provides a luxurious sanctuary, an oasis of calm.

Our room was decorated in a chic contemporary style with the most amazingly comfortable beds and Frette sheets, of course.

I'm a huge fan of Molton Brown and Cowshed products but it was a pleasant change to see Korres toiletries and I think they may just have a new customer! Basil Lemon shower gel is a great start to a day pounding the streets of London.

What a gorgeous selection of toiletries!

Even the fruit looks stylish!

The service from the friendly staff was impeccable. They manage to get the right balance - professional, friendly yet always unobtrusive. The hotel is very well located near Bank tube station (just a short ride to Covent Garden and the West End) and it's just a five minute walk to the River Thames. Other landmarks such as St. Paul's, Southbank, the Bank of England and the Tate Modern are just a stroll away. There are a number of stylish shops nearby including Lulu Guiness, Jo Malone and Vilebrequin (for quirky swimshorts)

I'm not surprised that Threadneedles has picked up awards including "One of the top 50 hottest hotels in the world" by Condé Nast Traveller, and one of the top 20 hotels by Tatler Magazine. More recently it was voted one of the top 20 UK business hotels(Number 12!) in the Condé Nast Traveller 2011 Readers' Travel Awards.

This really is a special place to stay - so calm after a day in the hustle and bustle of London!

miss b recommends:
  • having a stroll around the local area
  • Bonds (Threadneedles own restaurant and bar)
  • Brasserie Blanc - Raymond Blanc's very affordable restaurant across the road from Threadneedles
  • taking advantage of the lower weekend rates
